The Himalayan Monal Lophophorus impejanus as locally known as" Danphe " is national bird of Nepal .
Male bird has a metallic green colored head and its eyes are circled with a blue band.Its back is purplish black with a distinctive white patch on the rump. Wings are blue- black in color with a touch of yellow on the top. Around the neck is a deep reddish band. The breast is dark brown. On the head is a crest of metallic green feathers.
The male Himalayan Monal is the most colorful and beautiful bird in Nepal .Nine different hues impart a radiant and gorgeous color pattern to make Himalayan Monal . Male is attractive and richly colored while the female is plain, probably,as it has to do hatching .
The female Himalayan Monal is a mostly dull brown with a pale white throat and a white patch on her rump. On the eyes are blue circles . Crest consists of ordinary short feathers.
Pheasants has shorts bills, feathers, with after shaft and feet suitable for scratching and running .It usually lives on the alpine grassy slopes from spring to autumn and in winter descends into the hilly forests area. It can be found within the altitude range of 2500 m to 48oo m .
Others varieties of Nepal's Himalayas pheasants are Blood Pheasant, satyr Tragopan, Koklas Pheasant, Kalij Pheasant and Cheer Pheasant.
Red Junglefowl and Indian Peafowl are found in lowland of Nepal.
The best place to see Himalayan Monal is Namche Bazar in Everest region, Annapurana trek, Langtang trek and other himalayan regions.
